Our client, a multinational and a leading owner and operator of communications sites for the wireless and broadcast industries is looking to recruit the head of legal for the Uganda operations.

 

The Head of Legal will be responsible for the provision of legal services within the Uganda operation and for the management of outsourced legal service providers. The incumbent will be responsible for leading and managing the legal affairs of the Uganda office, providing sound legal advice to the senior management team and to ensuring good, legal practice and regulatory compliance of the Company’s business, while working within the legal framework of Uganda.

 Key Responsibilities: 

 

·  Negotiate and draft wide range of contracts, including without limitation, transactional agreements, severance agreements, and acquisition agreements.

·  Research and draft memoranda regarding complex legal issues.

·  Ensure the business operates within the industry’s legal and regulatory compliance framework.

·  Advise on strategy of dealing with ministries, regulatory and other authorities and meet and confer with such authorities where required.

·  Manage external local legal service providers.

·  Oversee litigation/proceedings, corporate entity maintenance and other matters in conjunction with external local lawyers and corporate office.

·  Engage and oversee legal due diligence projects where the need arises.

·  Manage, oversee and formulate internal legal-related processes and procedures.

·  Keep the Country Manager and members of the management team informed and updated on legislative matters relating to responsibilities and duties relating to regulatory and compliance.

·  Negotiate and draft wide range of contracts, including without limitation, transactional agreements, severance agreements, and acquisition agreements.

·  Maintain and preserve important original legal documents; scan and index for electronic records and database.

·  Ensure compliance with Company’s policies and procedures.

  

Functional Knowledge:

·         Prior real estate law, telecom/carrier and/or mergers & acquisitions experience especially helpful.

  • Excellent understanding of the mobile mast market, key customers and suppliers.

 

 


 Skills:

 

·                     Good public relations skills (e.g., ability to represent the company and generate positive influence in the external and internal communities). 

·                     Strong negotiation skills.

·                     Proficient in Microsoft (WORD, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

 

 Academic Background and Experience:

·         Be admitted to practice law in Uganda (Bachelor of Laws/LLB) (Preferred)

·         5-12 years prior experience serving as a corporate, real estate and transactional attorney

·         Prior experience working for UK-based or US-based law firms, or legal education in the US or UK, would be a plus.
